Okey Dokey

At your request, Heather! Here is our fab four blog.

I don't really know how to use it and I've spent 30 minutes trying to take down that 2nd picture. Hm...

Charley, Heather- where are you guys?

Russell, what are you doing?

I'm eating those klondike bars that you never ate Charley.

  1. Hi guys!! I too am trying to get the hang of this. I just joined and then followed the blog too, so I'm a little confused.

Yay! This is going to be fun. I hope we all keep up with it somewhat.

So, my mom and I are on day seven and we're in a small town in Utah called Price. After touring Mt. St. Helen's upon departure of Seattle, we hung out at my aunt's house for two nights and floated down the Washougal River while catching up on extended family gossip. Then we headed through Oregon where I was issued a $250 ticket. Yuck. I was going 84 and the speed limit in all of Oregon, I guess, is 65. I'm contesting the damn thing. Asshole cop. I can't remember the last time I got a ticket...I think I deserved a warning.

Anyway, then after getting the awful taste of disgust out of my mouth (although I guess technically I was the one who broke the law), we continued on to a small town just outside Boise to watch the fireworks. The town was called Mountain Home and the show was put on by a group of volunteer firefighters who buy the pyrotechnics solely from donations. It was fantastic. I think my mom is going to send them a check.

The next day we traveled through Idaho, which is beautiful with all the rolling mountains. Sidenote - we have basically traveled the route of the Oregon trail, and it's amazing the terrain and conditions these people migrated through. And back in the 1800s. Amazing. So we visited the Craters of the Moon National Park, and met a group traveling from new york to seattle in their model T fords. they could only go 38 mph. i guess it took them six years to plan the trip. there were 50 cars involved in the trek. very cool to see. this night we stayed in west Yellowstone - a city just outside the park. very cute. we ate at a place called bullwinkle's and got kinda drunk... :)

The next day we did Yellowstone. I don't recommend doing this park in one day, but where we wanted to stay, there were no vacancies and we didn't have a complete camping set up and no room for extra food and whatnot. Sooo we continued south and stayed just outside of the Tetons this night. Yellowstone was beautiful, but vast. I recommend giving yourself two to three nights here and hiking and camping. the mammoth hot springs aren't as beautiful as the pictures, but it's neat to see how things change. And I'd tell you about all the geological changes I learned about, but I'm sure you guys are already nodding off.

On the way to the Tetons, at the very end of our super long day, we passed a young bear on the side of the road!!! So cute, but (other than the danger) there were already rangers around making the traffic go, so I didn't get too good of a pic. Silly I know.

  2. So, it told me I had too many characters, so I'm beating the system and posting my second half in a different post. Feel free to stop reading at any moment ;)

The next morning we woke up looking at the magnificent Tetons. It's my mother's favorite place in the world, so although it was a bit out of our way (I wanted to go the middle route), i think it was crucial to get there with her at least one more time. We did a little bit of hiking, and found a new spot! I guess Laurance Rockefeller donated the family's last parcel of land that was in the park boudaries a few years ago, and they just opened it to the public last August. So it was a place neither I nor my mother had explored before. So fun. I'll only admit it to you guys, but I'm glad I'm not a Rockefeller because I don't think I'd have the heart to give that property away. sad to admit, but I'm sure of it. That night after photographing many moose (my favorite animal) we stayed in downtown Jackson with a view of the ski slopes.

At this point I have to admit that I really miss you guys. I also think I like Jeff more than I knew myself. Or maybe I'm just getting nervous. But I do think of my life in Seattle quite often. I guess to put it in perspective, I'm in the middle of nowhere with only my mother and no idea what I'm getting myself into....I guess I could dream about all of the prospective three-inchers....ha ha ha. not funny charley.

Today we basically drove the entire day. Saw some good stuff, but I'm getting tired of typing. I love you guys. I hope we keep this up - at least once a month or so.

Russ - How's the wedding planning going? are you loving life in florida? any plans to move? does marion have a job teaching? I haven't gotten any drunk dials lately...that makes me kinda sad. :)

Charley - did you like mesa verde? I loved that place as a kid. I think I remember wanting to make a fort there sooooo bad. is it cool as an adult too? what hikes did you guys do in yosemite? which hike was the 16-mile one? in grand canyon or yosemite? How are you getting along with Jess? This is probably the first time you guys have spent so much, non-stop time together...

Meadow. How are you? Are you getting nervous? Excited? Are you researching the hula dance for your honeymoon? I hear there's a real technique to it all. Thanks for burning that music. I did put in on my computer and started listening and it's obvious you thoughtfully picked out every song - love you...

Anyway, I think I'm going to get a bite to eat and crash. Tomorrow we're going to do the arches and then head on to colorado....lots of wonderful mountains there. then either hit up New orleans and boost some of their economy (my idea, my mom thinks I'm crazy) or maybe get some smoky action in tennessee going. Man I love that state. I think if I were to live somewhere else in the states, my next move would be nashville....

    Love you guys!!!

  3. That post was amazing, you win! I cried, got a history lesson, laughed, took an icecream break, and felt nostalgic.
Sounds like a wonderful trip, Heather, so happy you were able to take that!
And 4th of July in a small town in Idaho....there's something that just sounds so raw and American about that! Love it.
Miss you SO freaking much... Miss everyone!

I went out last night by myself and I think I'm getting too old for that. NAH

    Love you!!
